JAMP’s Student Success Seminar Series: Empowering the Whole Scholar
JAMP's five-part seminar series, in partnership with OnlineMedEd, provided scholars with strategies to support both academic success and personal growth.
First, congratulations on being accepted to a Texas medical school! Now that you know
where the next chapter of your academic career will begin, you might be thinking about
how to pay for medical school. But did you know there's an opportunity for pre-med
students from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds to get funding to continue
their studies?
The Texas Medical Association will provide sixteen $10,000 scholarships through the TMA Scholarship Application for Entry Year 2024 incoming medical students (students who will start medical school
in July 2024.)
Please note that the funds will be disbursed directly to the school in increments of $2,500 annually during the first four years of a student’s matriculation (to be split between fall and spring semesters evenly). These scholarships are made possible through generous donations solicited by the TMA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of TMA. The program is directed at minorities who are underrepresented in Texas medical schools and the state’s physician workforce.
Applicant Requirements:
Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024. Winning candidates will be notified in late June 2024. Actual monies will be disbursed to the school when the winner enters medical school in July 2024.

Todd Lang, JAMP Faculty Director at UNT, launched a care package initiative to help students start the semester strong. What began with basic supplies quickly expanded to address food insecurity and other student needs, offering items like non-perishable food, lab supplies, and hygiene products. Lang’s effort, supported by his team, reflects JAMP's mission to remove barriers and ensure students can focus on their studies and succeed in their journey to become healthcare professionals.
The pursuit of careers in healthcare continues to evolve as the latest Entry Year (EY) 2025 data highlights notable shifts in application and matriculation patterns across dental, medical, and veterinary schools. These changes reflect both the growing interest in these professions and subtle variations in academic benchmarks.
