Empowering JAMP Scholars to Thrive with Enhanced Support and Resources

The Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP) is dedicated to improving student outcomes and facilitating access to medical school for aspiring physicians across Texas. Here are the latest updates and what they mean for the program and the scholars we serve. 


Dr. Morales marked his final meeting as chair during the July JAMP council meeting, closing a transformative chapter for the program. Moving forward, Dr. Morales will serve as a mentor to the new JAMP Chair and the Chair-Elect.

Under Dr. Morales' leadership, several significant initiatives were implemented, including:

  • Cohort Expansion: Increasing the JAMP cohort size from 100 to 150 for Entry Year 2024 and thereafter.
  • Reinforcing Success: Partnering with Jack Westin MCAT Preparation services 
  • Streamlining Processes: Introducing a proposal for a two-match process to streamline admissions.
  • Expanding Holistic Review Practices: Establishing the Opt-In process to enhance the holistic medical application review beyond academic performance.
  • Medical School Expansion: Increased the number of participating medical schools, through the execution of signed MOUs with UT Tyler, University of Houston, and Sam Houston State University.
  • New Partnerships: Forming a partnership between JAMP and OnlineMedEd to offer a pre-matriculation curriculum and holistic student support services.


In conjunction with Dr. Morales' departure, the JAMP Council welcomes new leadership:

  • Dr. Cynthia Perry from Texas Tech Health Science Center El Paso as the new JAMP Council Chair
  • Dr. Jesus Vallejo from Baylor College of Medicine as the NEW JAMP Council Chair-Elect
  • Dr. Cristel Escalona from University of Texas Rio Grande Valley as Budget Chair
  • Dr. Gisele Abron from UT Tyler as Research & Development Chair
  • Dr. Pierre Banks from University of Texas Medical Branch, John Sealy School of Medicine as Academic Affairs Chair

As JAMP moves forward, the council looks ahead to further advancements and continued commitment to student success. Thank you, Dr. Morales, for your remarkable contributions to JAMP!
