Take a look at how Entry Year 2022 compares to other application cycles. All numbers below represent applications started and submitted as of October 1, 2021 and on the same date for each application cycle represented.
Comparing EY2021 to EY2022, there is a decrease of 265 applications started to TMDSAS.
While this is not quite as high as the historic numbers seen in the previous cycle,
they are still above average over the past 5 years.
When it comes to submitted applicants, there are 143 fewer total applications than
the same time last year. This gap has been closing as the application deadline draws
closer. Here are the groups driving these changes:
Year over year, dental applications started have remained steady, with 16 more applications
started than last cycle.
Submitted applications as of October 1 show 19 fewer submitted applicants than last
year. This differences in trendlines between the applications started and the applications
submitted seem to point to a last-minute surge in submitted applications later in
the cycle.
While year over year growth in the medical applicant pool has decreased by 714 applications
started and 528 applications submitted over the same time last year, this year's submitted
pool is still higher than the 5-year average.
Historically, the last month of the application cycle yields a significant increase
in applications, and that appears to be the case again this year.
The application deadline was on September 20, and the historic growth in applications
started also appeared in the applications submitted group.
Total applications started increased by 403, or 27%. The total number of veterinary
applications submitted in EY 2022 is 1268, which is 341 more than last year or a historic
37% increase!
The next update will include the year-end totals for dental and medical applicants.

JAMP's five-part seminar series, in partnership with OnlineMedEd, provided scholars with strategies to support both academic success and personal growth.
Todd Lang, JAMP Faculty Director at UNT, launched a care package initiative to help students start the semester strong. What began with basic supplies quickly expanded to address food insecurity and other student needs, offering items like non-perishable food, lab supplies, and hygiene products. Lang’s effort, supported by his team, reflects JAMP's mission to remove barriers and ensure students can focus on their studies and succeed in their journey to become healthcare professionals.
